Photographs from the exhibition “Togliere i libri di Tschicold dalle casse” were created by the communication team of ISIA Urbino
The exhibition features the corpus of bibliographical sources cited by the graphic designer Jan Tschichold in his work Die neue Typographie (The New Typography, 1928). This founding text of modernist graphic design has been at the centre of debates, while the sources cited by its author have often been overlooked.
All the books have been identified and collected in original, reprint or facsimile, including the production of new fac-simile editions.
The books on display allow to explore their impact and their relationship with the principles set out in The New Typography.
Thus, Bauhaus books, works by Le Corbusier, Futurist manifestos, German standards on printed matter find their place in this exhibition, which is the result of a research project carried out at ECAL between 2019 and 2022, conducted by a team led by Matthieu Cortat and Davide Fornari at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (HES-SO).
