Atena Lucana is the oldest town in the Vallo di Diano, with origins dating back to the Mycenaean era. Its medieval urban layout, featuring an elliptical plan with three concentric rings, surrounds the Medieval Castle. The fortress is recognizable from a distance, and as one approaches through narrow alleys, a sense of tranquility prevails. Our photographic census operation categorizes facades of residences within the three rings, maintaining an objective perspective.
The work reflects on the passage of time, frozen in a crystallized reality where architectural evolution is the only tangible sign of change. Atena Lucana boasts various types of dwellings, some ancient, others more modern, revealing the imprint of time. Houses intertwine with intimate spaces and the histories of overlapping environments, much like the few people residing in these semi-deserted places. They keep the memory alive through long-standing traditions that can be sensed while traversing and observing these alleys.
